The Balaguer Route
Balaguer, capital of the Noguera region, is a city full of history and culture, where the Segre River marks the essence of its landscape and identity. Our route begins at Plaça Mercadal, one of the most emblematic spaces, known for its porches and the weekly market that has been held there for over 800 years.
Walking through the old town we will discover streets and monuments full of history, such as the Portal de Gel and the remains of the wall that once protected the city. Don’t miss the imposing Church of Santa Maria, from where you can enjoy spectacular views of Balaguer.
We will continue along Carrer del Barrinou, where the Balaguer Regional Museum is located, and we will travel through lively commercial streets such as Carrer Major and Carrer d’Avall. The route ends at Plaça Sant Salvador, near the Sant Crist de Balaguer, a sanctuary with privileged views over the river and the city.
If you have more time, we recommend you visit Castell Formós and the Monastery of Les Franqueses (more info at castellsdelleida.com i monestirs.cat).
